Membership

Interested in joining the Consortium? We have many exciting events and opportunities in different regions, from New York City, to the Hudson Valley, to Albany and beyond. While the Consortium obviously appeals to chefs, cooks, bakers and anyone who is involved in the food and beverage industry, you don’t actually have to be a chef to join. We have several “non-chef” members who contribute talents and skills like photography, social media, recycling, food blogging, farming, event planning, and music. We have found that people who enjoy working together with other people as a team make especially great members.

Membership Fee

We have started asking our members for a membership fee. The $30 fee buys each member business cards, promotional flyers, and a black apron with the Consortium logo. The aprons are worn by our members at events – it’s how people know we’re from the Consortium. Of course, we’re flexible when it comes to payment of the fee. If your finances are limited, we can reduce or waive the fee. If you’re not sure you want to dive into the world of the Consortium, come to an event, lend a hand to see how you “gel” with our members, and decide later if membership is for you.

Events

We ask our members to participate in a minimum of three events each year, although most members are involved in many more. Some events have budgets that allow us to pay our members for their time while others are offered on a volunteer basis. Paid events typically include large field dinners and cocktail parties, while smaller volunteer events might include cooking demonstrations at farmers markets and school gardens, workshops at conferences, and cooking classes at health food stores. By the way, participating in events is not the only way to become involved. Let us know if you have a special skill that you think would be beneficial to our organization (hint, currently we have no members with web or accounting skills).
